When to use exhaust cleaning lotion?

Regular exhaust system cleaning isn't just about aesthetics – it's also about maintaining the long-term condition of your motorcycle's metal components.

  • After intensive off-road riding – the faster you remove mud, dust and moisture, the less time you'll spend cleaning.
  • Before and after the season – preparing your motorcycle for winter storage requires thorough cleaning and protection of metals.
  • When you notice chrome dulling – early intervention prevents deeper corrosion, which is harder to remove.
  • Before important events – competitions, rallies, meets with fellow enthusiasts are occasions when exhaust cleaning product quickly restores showroom shine.
  • After riding in rain or snow – cleaning and protecting metals after riding in wet conditions extends their lifespan.

Professional quality available to everyone

OC1 Exhaust Cleaner is an exhaust cleaning product from the same catalogue used by professional racing teams during the MXGP World Championship. This isn't marketing – it's fact. When Bud Racing Kawasaki or Jk Racing Yamaha teams prepare motorcycles before qualifying, they use exactly the same cleaning lotion you can have in your garage.

Why do professionals choose OC1? Because in the racing world, time and certainty matter. Mechanics cannot afford products that require repeated application or long waiting times for results. They need solutions that work first time – and this cleaning product meets those requirements.

Now the same quality and effectiveness is available to every user. You don't need to be a professional mechanic to use professional tools. All you need is a bottle of Exhaust Cleaner lotion, a cloth and a few minutes – the rest is the result of advanced technology working for you.

1. Make sure the surface is cold

Before starting, check that the exhaust system has cooled down completely. Applying the cleaner to hot surfaces can be dangerous and reduces effectiveness. If the motorcycle has been in use, wait at least 30–60 minutes.

2. Shake the bottle well

Vigorous shaking before use ensures the active ingredients are evenly mixed. This matters because nanoparticles may settle at the bottom during storage. Ten to fifteen seconds of intensive shaking is enough.

3. Apply the product to the surface

Use a soft cloth or sponge to spread Exhaust Cleaner evenly across the exhaust surface, pipes, nuts and bolts. Do not skimp on the product — there should be a uniform layer of milk covering all the soiled areas.

4. Leave on for 2–3 minutes

This is the time when nanotechnology does its job — the active ingredients penetrate deposits and corrosion, breaking them down from within. The cleaning time drops from around 30 minutes to just 2 minutes. In the meantime, prepare a sponge or microfibre cloth and water for rinsing.

5. Buff the surface with a sponge

After waiting, take a sponge and vigorously wipe the surface in circular motions. This step calls for some effort — more stubborn deposits and tarnished spots need a bit longer. Thanks to the milk, dirt comes off much faster and more easily than with traditional cleaning, but some mechanical work is still needed. Avoid metal brushes or wire wool that could scratch chromed parts. Once the deposits are gone, polish the surface to a shine with a dry microfibre cloth.

6. Rinse with water

Thoroughly rinse the surface with clean water to remove product residues and dissolved contaminants. A pressure washer set to a low jet or ordinary water from a hose will do the job.

7. Dry thoroughly

Wipe the surface with a clean, dry cloth. Thorough drying prevents streaks and water spots and immediately reveals the final shine of the metal.

8. Repeat if needed

For very advanced corrosion or years of built-up deposits, repeating the process may be necessary. Rather than scrubbing harder, apply the cleaner a second time and let it work for longer.

9. Protect the surface from rusting again

After cleaning and polishing the exhaust, apply a protective product such as OC1 Bike Shine. Spray it evenly onto the clean, dry surface and spread it with a microfibre cloth. The protective layer creates a barrier against moisture, road salt and high temperatures — slowing the re-oxidation and rusting of the metal. The shiny finish lasts much longer, and the next cleaning will be easier. The exhaust is exposed to external factors more than most parts — regular protection is the key to keeping its appearance.

Important

Always wear protective gloves — although the formula is relatively mild, prolonged contact may cause skin irritation.

Avoid inhaling fumes — work in well-ventilated rooms or outdoors.

Do not apply to hot surfaces — wait until the exhaust has cooled completely.

Protect painted parts — if the milk accidentally lands on paintwork, rinse it off with water immediately.

Store at 5–25 °C, away from children and animals.

Tip

For really stubborn dirt, apply the product to the surface and gently cover with a cloth. This compress lets the active ingredients work longer without drying out. After 5–10 minutes, remove the cloth and polish the surface — the result will be even better.

Regular use prevents problems: rather than rare, intensive cleaning, it is better to use the product more often in smaller amounts. This keeps the exhaust in steady condition and saves time.

How does OC1 Exhaust Cleaner work?

The product uses advanced nanotechnology, in which microscopic particles penetrate deep into the structure of exhaust deposits, rust and corrosion. They work like molecular scissors, cutting the bonds between metal and contaminants. Dirt is removed without mechanical scrubbing, which protects the surface from scratches. The formula also leaves a microscopic protective layer that slows the build-up of new soiling.

Can I use this cleaner on every type of metal?

Yes, the product is safe for all metals used in motorcycle exhaust systems: chrome, stainless steel, carbon steel, titanium and anodised aluminium. It is designed to clean effectively without damaging delicate surfaces. It works equally well on glossy chromed parts and on matt, raw metals.

How often should I clean the exhaust?

Frequency depends on how intensively the bike is used and on the riding conditions. After intensive off-road riding or in wet conditions it is worth using the milk the very next day. For motorcycles used mainly on tarmac, cleaning every 2–3 weeks is enough, or whenever the surface starts to look matt. Regular cleaning prevents deeper corrosion that is harder to remove later.

Does the cleaner leave streaks or stains?

Not when the instructions are followed. The key to avoiding streaks is to rinse the surface thoroughly with water after cleaning and to dry it with a clean cloth. Streaks usually appear when the product is left to dry on its own. Wipe the surface dry immediately after rinsing — the result will be an even, glossy shine.

Can Exhaust Cleaner be used on other parts of the motorcycle?

Yes. Although it was designed mainly for exhaust systems, it works very well on other metal parts: chromed engine covers, bolts, nuts, flanges, suspension components. It can also be used to clean metal workshop tools. Avoid using it on painted surfaces — this is a milk for metal, not for paint.

Is the milk safe for seals and rubber?

Yes, the formula does not contain aggressive solvents that could damage seals, rubber O-rings or plastic components. The product can be safely used near such elements. If direct contact with rubber occurs, simply rinse it with water. This is an extra advantage over more aggressive chemical products.

How long does one 250 ml bottle last?

The 250 ml volume allows for many applications. Depending on the size of the bike and the level of soiling, one bottle is enough for around 20 thorough cleanings of the exhaust system. With regular use it lasts an entire season. A small amount of product gives visible results, which makes it an economical solution.

Can I use the cleaner on hot exhaust pipes?

No. Applying the milk to hot surfaces is unsafe and ineffective. Hot metal may cause the active ingredients to evaporate too quickly, reducing cleaning power, and there is also a risk of burns. Always wait until the exhaust system has cooled completely — in practice 30–60 minutes after switching off the engine. The surface should be cold to the touch.

Does the product remove deep rust and pitting?

The milk effectively removes surface corrosion and deposits, restoring the original shine of the metal. With advanced rust that has already damaged the metal structure (pitting — characteristic small holes), the appearance will improve significantly, but the damaged surface cannot be rebuilt. The earlier you start using the product regularly, the better — you will prevent deeper corrosion before it forms.

Does the cleaner work on rust on nuts and bolts?

Yes, Exhaust Cleaner deals well with small metal parts such as nuts, bolts, clamps and flanges. Apply the product, wait a few minutes and wipe. This is especially useful when preparing a motorcycle for sale or for a show — well-kept details make a huge difference to how the whole bike is perceived.

Do I need to use brushes for cleaning?

No, and that is one of the biggest advantages of this cleaner. Nanotechnology works at molecular level, breaking down dirt without mechanical scrubbing. In most cases it is enough to apply the milk, wait and wipe with a coarse sponge. Avoiding brushes means less risk of scratches, especially on delicate chromed surfaces. Only for very stubborn dirt may a soft sponge help.

Should I additionally protect the exhaust after cleaning?

It is recommended, especially if the bike is exposed to moisture or you ride in harsh weather. After using Exhaust Cleaner you can apply OC1 Polish & Protect, which leaves a hydrophobic protective coating. Water runs off the surface and dirt settles more slowly. This extends the cleaning effect and reduces how often pampering treatments are needed.
