Motorcycle lubricants

Chain lubricant resistant to water and mud, oil for foam air filters, and a multifunction product for cables, locks and seized bolts. Three things that decide how long the drivetrain and the engine keep working.

Which lubricant for a motorcycle chain?

A motorcycle chain works under loads a bicycle knows nothing about — and usually in mud, water and sand. That is why the lubricant has above all to stay on the chain rather than fly off at the first revolutions.

OC1 Chain Lube contains PTFE, resists water and mud, protects against corrosion and does not sling onto the tyre or the swingarm. It suits chains with O-rings and X-rings.

⚠ Lubricate a warm chain, after riding — the lubricant penetrates deeper then. And always a clean one: fresh lubricant over old dirt forms an abrasive paste that eats sprockets faster than running unlubricated.

How often should you lubricate?

Roughly every 400–800 km on the road, and off-road — after every outing in mud or water.

Lubricating after every wash is compulsory, whatever the mileage. Water flushes lubricant out of the links more effectively than anything else.

Why this matters particularly in motocross is explained in the guide to chain lubrication in motocross.

Why does an air filter need oil?

A foam filter without oil does not filter — it passes fine dust straight into the engine. The oil is what actually holds the contamination back.

OC1 Air Filter Oil creates a waterproof coating and carries a green control colour, which shows whether the foam is covered evenly. More in the air filters category.

What else needs lubricant?

Throttle and clutch cables, locks, seat hinges, seized bolts, electrical contacts after riding through water — the multi-purpose spray covers all of it.

It displaces moisture, frees blocked connections and protects against rust. It is the one product worth keeping in the toolbox even if no service is planned.

⚠ Do not use it on brake rotors or pads.
