Main properties

What makes OC1 Chain Lube Wet stand out from other lubricants? First, its unique synthetic formula based on olive oil, enriched with special additives that increase water resistance.

  • Waterproof formula – specially developed composition with synthetic oils and hydrophobic additives ensures the lubricant maintains its consistency and lubricating properties even after contact with large amounts of water.
  • Long-lasting protection – high adhesion to metal ensures the lubricant doesn't fling off during riding.
  • Safe for components – the formula doesn't damage O-ring and X-ring seals, is safe for anodised aluminium, carbon fibre and all other materials used in modern bicycles
  • Protection against corrosion and rust – anti-corrosion additives create a barrier protecting metal from moisture and oxidation.

Who is OC1 Chain Lube Wet for?

Wondering if this lubricant is right for your riding style? Chain Lube Wet is a universal solution for cyclists who value reliability in all conditions. The product is ideal for mountain and enduro riders dealing with muddy trails and variable weather conditions. The waterproof formula means one application is enough for several intense rides. Year-round cycling enthusiasts will appreciate the protection against rain, snow and road salt — the lubricant effectively protects the chain from corrosion even during winter commutes.

An excellent solution for participants of long bikepacking and gravel trips, where long-lasting adhesion means fewer maintenance stops and certainty that the chain won't fail. Road cyclists riding in rainy weather will find confidence in smooth drivetrain operation, and quiet work with minimal friction translates to better efficiency. The lubricant also works for e-bike owners, where higher loads require superior anti-wear properties.

When to use Chain Lube Wet?

Choosing the right lubricant for specific conditions significantly affects drivetrain lifespan and riding comfort. OC1 Chain Lube Wet was designed for specific situations where standard lubricants fail.

  • Riding in rainy weather – you don't have to skip training or trips just because it's raining.
  • Muddy and wet forest trails – the lubricant not only doesn't wash out in contact with water and mud, but also protects against dirt buildup on the chain.
  • Long trips – one application before departure is enough for several days of intense riding without the need for relubrication.
  • Autumn and winter season – prevents corrosion and rust, which appear particularly quickly during months with high air humidity and on wet roads.
  • Crossings through fords, puddles and streams – extreme water resistance means that even complete chain submersion doesn't remove its lubricating protection.

Why does water resistance matter?

Water is one of the biggest enemies of bicycle drivetrains. Standard lubricants, while effective in dry conditions, quickly lose their properties after contact with moisture. OC1 Chain Lube Wet solves this problem with a special formula that maintains its consistency and lubricating properties regardless of conditions.

When riding in rain or through puddles, standard lubricant washes out of the chain within minutes, leaving the metal unprotected. The result? Rapid wear, corrosion and noisy drivetrain operation. The waterproof Chain Lube Wet formula creates a durable layer that repels water instead of mixing with it.

Moreover, the lubricant doesn't attract excessive dirt and sand - a problem that often affects standard "wet" lubricants. Special additives ensure the chain surface remains relatively clean even after riding in mud, which greatly simplifies subsequent maintenance.

1. Clean the chain before lubrication

Best to use a chain cleaner (e.g. OC1 Chain Cleaner) and brush to remove old lubricant, dirt and deposits. A well-cleaned chain is the foundation of effective lubrication - new lubricant must reach the metal directly, not sit on a layer of contamination. Rinse the chain with water and wait until completely dry, or wipe it with a clean cloth.

2. Shake the bottle before use

Shake the bottle thoroughly for a few seconds to ensure all lubricant components mix evenly. This simple step ensures that every drop will have identical properties and optimal effectiveness. Anti-wear and hydrophobic additives may settle at the bottom during storage, so mixing is crucial.

3. Apply lubricant to each chain roller

Using the drop applicator, apply one drop of lubricant to the top of each chain roller while slowly rotating the cranks backward. Make sure the lubricant reaches exactly where metal meets metal - where friction occurs. Try not to apply lubricant to the sides of chain plates, as this is the part that attracts the most dirt.

4. Let the lubricant penetrate

Wait 3-5 minutes to allow the lubricant to penetrate deep into the gaps between rollers and chain plates. During this time, you can rotate the pedals backward several times or shift through all gears to distribute the lubricant evenly across the entire chain. This is particularly important for chains with seals (O-ring, X-ring).

5. Remove excess lubricant

Take a clean, dry cloth and gently wipe the chain, removing excess lubricant from external surfaces. This step is crucial - excess lubricant on the outside of the chain attracts dirt, sand and dust, leading to faster wear. A well-lubricated chain should look almost dry on the outside but be perfectly lubricated inside.

6. Ready to ride

After a few minutes from application, you can hit the road. During the first few dozen crank rotations, you may hear gentle clicking - this is normal, the lubricant needs a moment to fully distribute across all drivetrain elements. After a short ride, the chain will run quietly and smoothly.

Important

  • Do not apply on hot surfaces - wait until the chain cools down after intense riding

  • Do not lubricate a wet chain - always ensure the chain is completely dry before application

  • Avoid contact with brake discs and pads - lubricant on brakes significantly reduces their effectiveness

  • Store at 5-25°C - extreme temperatures can change product consistency

  • Keep away from children and pets - product intended for technical use only

Tip

The best time to lubricate is in the evening after finishing your ride, not in the morning before departure. This way the lubricant has all night to penetrate the chain gaps, ensuring optimal protection. Lubricate the chain every 100-150 km in dry conditions or more often after riding in rain and mud. If you hear creaking during gear shifts, it's a sign that maintenance is needed. Remember - it's better to lubricate more often with small amounts than rarely with large portions. This is the key to keeping your drivetrain in excellent condition.

What's the difference between Chain Lube Wet and Chain Lube Dry?

Chain Lube Wet was designed specifically for wet and muddy conditions - it has a thicker, stickier consistency that doesn't wash out with water. Chain Lube Dry is a lighter formula ideal for dry, dusty trails - it attracts less dirt but washes out faster in rain. The choice depends on prevailing riding conditions.

How often should I lubricate the chain using this product?

In dry conditions, one application lasts for 100-150 km or about a week of regular riding. After riding in rain, mud or through water, re-lubrication is recommended right after cleaning and drying the chain. If you hear creaking or grinding during gear shifts, it's a sign the chain needs maintenance.

Can I use this lubricant on a motorcycle chain?

Yes, OC1 Chain Lube Wet is safe for motorcycle chains, including those with O-ring and X-ring seals. The formula doesn't damage rubber or other materials used in motorcycle drivetrains. It's particularly recommended for motorcycles used in challenging off-road conditions - enduro, motocross, trial.

Is this lubricant safe for carbon frames and components?

Absolutely yes. Chain Lube Wet contains no aggressive solvents or substances that could damage carbon, paint, anodised aluminium or composites. It's safe for all materials used in modern bicycles, including carbon fibre, titanium and ceramics.

What to do if I accidentally applied too much lubricant?

Wipe the chain with a clean, dry cloth, removing excess lubricant from external surfaces. You can also ride a few kilometers and then wipe the chain again - some excess will naturally distribute. Remember that excess lubricant on the outside of the chain attracts dirt, so always remove visible reserves.

Can I use Chain Lube Wet in summer during dry conditions?

You can, but Chain Lube Dry will be a better choice for dry, dusty trails. Chain Lube Wet in hot, dry conditions may attract more dust and sand, which paradoxically accelerates wear. In summer, save Chain Lube Wet for sudden rain showers or muddy sections.

How to store the product to maintain its properties?

Store the bottle at room temperature (5-25°C) away from direct sunlight and heat sources. Make sure the cap is tightly closed after each use to prevent drying or contamination of the lubricant. The product maintains full effectiveness for at least 24 months from the production date.

Can I ride immediately after lubrication, or should I wait?

For best results, wait 5-10 minutes after application to allow the lubricant to penetrate the chain gaps. If you're in a hurry, you can ride immediately, but during the first minutes of riding the chain may run slightly louder until the lubricant fully distributes. Ideally, lubricate the chain in the evening before a planned ride.

Does this lubricant protect against rust and corrosion?

Yes, Chain Lube Wet contains anti-corrosion additives that create a protective barrier between metal and moisture. It's particularly effective in preventing rust during bicycle storage in damp conditions or after riding in salt water (coastal areas, roads salted in winter). For maximum protection before long-term storage, lubricate the chain and leave without wiping excess.

Why is my chain louder after lubrication?

If you hear clicking or creaking right after lubrication, it may mean several things: the chain wasn't clean enough before application (old lubricant and dirt mix with the new), you used too little lubricant, or the lubricant still needs a few more minutes to fully penetrate the rollers. Try adding a few more drops to the most loaded chain sections and ride a few kilometers.

Can I use this lubricant on other bicycle parts?

Chain Lube Wet is optimised specifically for chains and should not be used on other components. For derailleurs and shifters, use a lighter lubricant or multi-purpose spray. For axles and bearings, you need more viscous greases. For brake and derailleur cables, use dedicated products. Using the wrong lubricant can lead to component performance issues.

How many washes/lubrications can I perform from one 140ml bottle?

With proper application (one drop per roller), a 140ml bottle is enough for approximately 40 full lubrications of a standard bicycle chain (112 links). This means a range of up to 2000-4000 km, depending on maintenance frequency. One bottle is roughly an entire season of intensive riding.
