Clothing protection without compromising breathability
Motorcycle and bicycle clothing is an investment that must perform during a sunny ride as well as in heavy rain or muddy terrain. The problem is that traditional methods of protecting materials often mean a choice: either waterproofing or breathability.
OC1 Impregnation Spray eliminates this dilemma. The product creates an invisible, breathable protective coating that causes water and dirt to run off the surface whilst you stay dry and comfortable. You don't need to be a textile technology expert – simply spray clothing from the aerosol, wait a moment and enjoy long-lasting protection.
Key product properties
What sets OC1 Impregnation Spray apart from other products? Above all, the unique combination of effectiveness and ease of use.
- Breathable waterproofing – the formula works on the principle of a microscopic barrier that repels water but allows water vapour through, so clothing doesn't turn into cling film.
- Multi-layer system – the product works best when applied in several thin layers, building complete protection.
- Universal compatibility – whether it's a hardshell jacket, down-filled clothing, leather gloves or textile boots, the product works on all surfaces without blocking material pores.
- UV and cold protection – besides water protection, the spray guards material against sun fading and the negative effects of low temperatures.
- Water-based formula – the product is environmentally friendly and completely safe to use, containing no harmful perfluorinated compounds.

Who is this waterproofing spray for?
The product has been created for anyone who wants to protect their clothing from harsh weather conditions and contamination. Off-road and enduro motorcyclists will appreciate that after waterproofing jackets and trousers, contamination is much easier to rinse off with water, saving time on cleaning Alpinestars, Fox or Leatt clothing. Road and MTB cyclists gain protection against rain and splashing mud whilst maintaining breathability during intense effort.
Touring and urban motorcycle owners will find that regular spray waterproofing keeps them dry even during long journeys in rain, and clothing looks smart for years. Family and weekend enthusiasts can protect jackets, gloves, boots and bags for the whole family with one product — for both motorcycle and bicycle use.
When to use Impregnation Spray?
Regular clothing protection isn't perfectionist fancy – it's a practical approach to extending the life of expensive gear.
- After purchasing new clothing – an additional 2-3 layers of spray significantly increase protection effectiveness from the very first use; it's like an insurance policy for a new jacket.
- After each wash – re-spraying after the third or fourth wash restores full functionality to membrane clothing.
- Before the autumn-winter season – one evening is enough to protect all jackets, trousers and gloves for the coming months.
- After intensive use – a quick spray refresh after thorough clothing cleaning restores full protection without a costly visit to the dry cleaner.

Why waterproofing spray rather than wash-in treatment?
Many people ask whether spray waterproofing is better than special wash-in treatments. The answer is: it depends on your needs, but spray has several key advantages. Above all, it allows precise application where you need it most — on shoulders, knees or trouser seat, without having to waterproof the entire garment. Speed is another benefit: hang up your clothing, spray, wait and you're done. Wash-in treatment requires a full wash and rinse cycle, which takes hours.
With OC1 spray, you can build protection gradually — one layer for summer conditions, three layers before a long journey in rain. The product also works on leather elements and mixed materials that shouldn't go in the washing machine, such as leather gloves, boots with inserts or bags. That's versatility wash-in treatments don't provide.

1. Prepare a clean and dry surface
The waterproofing spray works best when the material is completely clean and dry. Wash clothing according to manufacturer recommendations, remove all contamination and wait until completely dry. Residual dirt or moisture reduces spray effectiveness. If in doubt, leave clothing overnight in a warm room – better to wait than waste the product.
2. Shake the bottle for 30 seconds
Thorough mixing of ingredients is key to even application. Vigorous shaking activates the formula and ensures each spray contains the correct proportion of protective ingredients. You'll hear the ball inside the can mixing the product.
3. Apply an even layer from 10-15 cm distance
Hold the can upright and spray the material from side to side, maintaining a consistent distance. The waterproofing spray should create a light mist on the surface, not heavy soaking. Too much product in one place doesn't mean better protection – quite the opposite, it may leave marks. Better to apply three thin layers than one thick one.
4. Allow to dry for 3-5 minutes between layers
The first layer must penetrate the material before you apply the second. Wait a few minutes – you can waterproof another part of the clothing or prepare the next item for protection during this time. The material should be dry to the touch before applying the next layer.
5. Apply 2-3 layers for optimal protection
The second and third layers build a complete protective barrier. Each subsequent application increases hydrophobic effectiveness and extends waterproofing duration. For standard clothing, two layers are sufficient; for extreme conditions (long journeys in rain, riding through mud), we recommend three.
Important
-
Do not use the spray on suede, nubuck or similar materials with a matt finish – it may alter their appearance. Always test on an inconspicuous area, such as the inside of a sleeve or trouser leg.
-
Storage temperature: 5-25°C. Do not expose the bottle to direct sunlight or frost.
-
The waterproofing spray reaches full effectiveness after 24 hours of curing at room temperature. Avoid using clothing in wet conditions for the first day after application.
-
The aerosol is flammable – use in a well-ventilated area, away from open flames and heat sources.
Tip
-
If you're planning a long motorcycle or bicycle journey, waterproof your clothing 2-3 days beforehand. This ensures the product has fully cured and you can test effectiveness before departure.
-
Contamination and oil stains hinder spray performance. If there are fresh grease or oil marks on clothing, first clean them with a dedicated textile cleaner (e.g. OC1 Textile Cleaner), then apply waterproofing.
-
Regularly reapply waterproofing every 2-3 months or after 4-5 washes, depending on usage intensity. Simple test: spray clothing with water – if water beads and runs off, the product is working. If it soaks into the material, it's time to refresh the protective layer.
Can I use the spray on all types of motorcycle and bicycle clothing?
The waterproofing spray is suitable for most materials used in technical clothing – synthetic fabrics, Gore-Tex type membranes, hardshell clothing, down-filled jackets and leather elements. Do not use on suede, nubuck or similar materials with a matt finish, as it may alter their appearance. If in doubt, test on a small, inconspicuous area of clothing.
How often should I refresh the waterproofing?
Frequency depends on usage intensity and conditions. We typically recommend refreshing every 2-3 months or after 4-5 washes. Simple effectiveness test: spray clothing with water – if droplets bead and run off, the waterproofing is working. If water soaks into the material, it's a sign to apply a fresh protective layer.
Does the spray maintain breathability of clothing membranes?
Yes, the OC1 formula has been designed specifically to preserve breathability. The waterproofing spray creates a microscopic barrier that repels water but allows water vapour through. This means Gore-Tex, eVent and similar membranes retain their moisture transport properties. Your clothing remains waterproof and breathable simultaneously.
Is the product safe for health and the environment?
OC1 Impregnation Spray has a water-based formula and contains no harmful perfluorinated compounds (PFC). It is safe for users and won't damage your clothing. Use in a well-ventilated area, as with any aerosol. The product is environmentally friendly and meets contemporary ecological standards.
Can I use the spray on gloves and boots?
Yes, the waterproofing spray works excellently on textile gloves, leather gloves and boots made from mixed materials. Waterproofed gloves better repel water and dirt, whilst boots stay dry when riding in rain. You can also use the spray on ordinary sports shoes, backpacks or bags – anywhere you need moisture protection.
Will clothing become stiff or change colour after application?
No, correctly applied waterproofing spray is completely invisible and doesn't change the material's texture. Clothing remains soft, flexible and retains its original colour. The product creates a microscopic layer that cannot be seen with the naked eye or felt by touch. The only thing you'll notice is the water beading effect on the surface.
When can I use clothing after spray application?
For optimal protection, we recommend waiting 24 hours before using clothing in wet conditions. During this time, the waterproofing spray fully cures and reaches maximum effectiveness. If you have an urgent need, clothing can be used after 2-3 hours, but protection won't yet be 100% effective.
Does the spray protect against UV radiation?
Yes, in addition to water and dirt protection, the waterproofing spray protects material against fading from UV radiation. Your clothing retains colour intensity even after many seasons of use. This is particularly important for expensive motorcycle and bicycle jackets that are exposed to prolonged sun exposure.
Can I use the spray on down-filled clothing?
Yes, OC1 Impregnation Spray is safe for down clothing. It doesn't damage the delicate down structure or reduce its thermal insulation properties. On the contrary – a waterproofed down jacket better repels moisture, so the down doesn't get wet and maintains full loft.
What should I do if the spray left marks on clothing?
Marks may occur when you applied too much product in one place. The solution is simple: lightly spray clean water on the marked area and allow to dry naturally. If that doesn't help, gently wipe with a damp microfibre cloth. In future, apply thinner layers from a greater distance – better three thin layers than one thick one.
How long does protection last after application?
With normal use, one three-layer application protects clothing for 2-3 months or 4-5 washes. This time may vary depending on usage intensity and conditions – riding through mud or sand accelerates protective layer wear. Regular refreshing ensures consistent, high effectiveness throughout the season.
